The Delta State Police Command says it has recovered three pump-action guns and three suspected stolen motorcycles while arresting five suspects in separate operations across the state.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, police said operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, arrested one Joseph Tyavzua during a stop-and-search operation along the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway on July 27, 2026.
According to the statement, the suspect was intercepted while travelling on a commercial motorcycle to Onitsha and was found in possession of a pump-action gun. Although he claimed to be a vigilante member, police said he failed to provide lawful authority for possessing the firearm. The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.
In a separate operation on the same day, operatives of the Ekpan Division arrested two suspects, Edodo Gift, 41, and Emoefe Solomon, 27, following an investigation into the armed robbery of a commercial motorcyclist along Jakpa Road in Effurun.
Police said the suspects confessed to the crime and led investigators to two suspected receivers, Fodio Bello, 27, and Kabiru Mohammed, 25, at Otowhe near Oleh.
The operation resulted in the recovery of two pump-action guns and three motorcycles believed to have been stolen during robbery operations. The four suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for the successful operations and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the pursuit of violent criminals.
