Delta Police Rescues Abducted Two-Year-Old, Reunites Child With Parents

-

The Delta State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old child and reunited the victim with the parents following a swift operation by operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) in Warri.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the rescue operation was carried out on May 10, 2026, at about 9:15 a.m. at Igbudu Market, Warri, after residents became suspicious of a man carrying a child concealed in a sack.

“The suspect, identified as Fejiro Obaduemu, aged 29, of Idesor Street, Isi Layout, Warri, was intercepted by vigilant residents while carrying the child concealed inside a sack bag, thereby raising suspicion of child stealing,” Edafe stated.

He explained that operatives of the QRS swiftly intervened to prevent the suspect from being lynched by an angry mob.

“Before the suspect could be mobbed, operatives of the QRS swiftly responded to the scene, rescued both the suspect and the child, and evacuated them to safety,” he said.

Police said the suspect sustained injuries during the mob attack and was immediately taken to the Police Clinic in Warri for treatment before being placed in custody for further investigation.

Edafe disclosed that further investigation conducted on May 11 led to the successful tracing of the child’s parents, after which the victim was formally reunited with the family in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being sent by an unidentified suspect in Warri to steal the child,” the police spokesperson added.

He noted that efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the suspected child trafficking network and unravel the wider criminal syndicate behind the operation.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling child trafficking and related crimes across the state.

“The Command remains committed to protecting children and combating all forms of human trafficking and related crimes,” the commissioner said, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines. #Securitynewsalert.com
