Delta Police Swoops on 3 Suspected Robbers, Recovers Weapons

-

The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a criminal syndicate accused of attacking residents and robbing them of their motorcycles in Ughelli and surrounding areas.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a statement issued on April 20, 2026, in Asaba.

According to him, “following a series of complaints received from residents of Ughelli and its environs concerning the activities of a criminal syndicate known for attacking unsuspecting victims, inflicting injuries with cutlasses, and dispossessing them of their motorcycles, the command successfully arrested three of the suspected armed robbers and recovered some incriminating items.”

Bright explained that the arrests were made during a coordinated operation by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team between 6:30 a.m. and 9:10 a.m. on the same day.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the CP Special Assignment (CP SAT) team, in collaboration with members of the Ughelli Kingdom Vigilantes, carried out coordinated operations at various locations within Ughelli metropolis, leading to the arrest of the suspects,” he said.

The suspects were identified as Surajo Atar, 25, from Bigal Village in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State; Abba Musa, 24, from Madara Village in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State; and Babangida Yusuf, 25, from Hamdullahi Village in Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State.

Items recovered from them include a cutlass and a black mask allegedly used in carrying out their operations.

The police spokesperson added that further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect.

“Upon further interrogation, the suspects led operatives to the Trailer Park area along Sapele Road, Warri, where one Abdurasheed Shafiu, 31, was arrested. The suspect, identified as a receiver of stolen motorcycles, has confessed to purchasing the items from the gang,” Bright stated.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

He said, “Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting other members of the syndicate and recovering stolen properties belonging to victims.”
