Delta Police Swoops On Suspected Robbers, Cultists, Recovers G3 Rifle, Pump Action Gun, Beretta Pistols, Others

The Delta State Police Command said it has arrested several suspected armed robbers, and cult members and also recovered several weapons.

These feats came after the State Commissioner of Police,  CP Olufemi Abaniwonda promised and reiterated his commitment to ensure that Deltans sleep with their two eyes closed.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe said the first successful operation occurred on the 17th of January 2025, at about 9:23 am, operatives of the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) while conducting stop and search along Ibusa road by GSM in Asaba, flagged down a tricycle with registration NO. 99VG.

The tricycle conveyed two occupants: Ogochukwu Stephen, 25, of No. 7 Ikukuoma Street ULO Asaba and Christian Emmanuel, 24, of Umuaehea quarter Ibusa.

The operatives subjected them to a search during which two rounds of 9mm live ammunition were initially recovered from them.

Edafe said that upon further investigation, a search warrant was executed on their premises where two fabricated Beretta Pistols and one improvised gun were recovered. Suspects and exhibits are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

He also disclosed that on that same date in another operation, the Command’s operatives at about 2:10 pm, acting on a tip-off the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Agbarho Division mobilised his patrol teams to the residence of one Eriga Enyuche, 40.

Edafe said: “A search warrant was executed in his place during which one G3 rifle, one pump action gun and one cutlass concealed inside the ceiling of his one-room apartment were recovered. The suspect and exhibit are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

“Also, at about 7:pm, the DPO Bomadi division received information that some suspected cultists were seen parading themselves in Bomadi brandishing weapons in the show of supremacy.

“Acting on this information,  on the 18th of January 2025, at about 6:pm, the DPO Bomadi detailed operatives attached to the division alongside vigilantes who embarked on an intelligence-led investigation and arrested the main suspect Felix Emizibo, 29. One fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from him.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect bought the gun from his uncle for the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira. The suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

“CP Olufemi Abaniwonda commends officers and men of the command for their continuous commitment to ensuring that the state is safe and secured by going after these criminal elements and smoking them out from their hiding place, he also urges members of the public to trust and continue to give use, credible and timely information to the Police.”
