Delta Police Take Action After Policemen Caught on Video Assaulting Man

-

The Delta State Police Command has formally acknowledged a disturbing video making rounds on X and other social media platforms, capturing officers allegedly assaulting a young man near the Asaba Specialist Hospital on Sunday, 27th July 2025.

In immediate response, Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda ordered the prompt identification and summoning of the involved officers to Command Headquarters. The individuals seen in the footage have since been identified and detained, pending the commencement of their orderly room trial. Additionally, the Team Leader, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, has been issued a formal query.

CP Abaniwonda reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for brutality, emphasising that such behaviour does not represent the values of the Delta State Police. He assured the public that the erring officers will face stringent disciplinary measures in line with the Police Act and applicable regulations, reinforcing that abuse of power will not be tolerated under his leadership.

He further directed all officers within the Command to adhere strictly to the principles of professional conduct and respect for human rights as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). The CP expressed hope that the decisive actions taken in this case would serve as a strong deterrent to others.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and assured them of transparent justice in the matter.
