The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Bright Edafe, said that the Command had arrested an Accountant with the Delta State Polytechnic, Oghara, for having a pistol.
According to Edafe, the 52-year-old suspect, Chief Oviri Onorigho, said that he bought the Beretta Pistol, loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, from one Mr Morrison for the sum of N250,000.
The Police also claimed that Onorigho is a suspected cultist in the state, belonging to the Aiye Confraternity.
Edafe explained that on the 24th of May, at about 11:30 am, acting on intelligence, the Commissioner of Police special team deployed to Ughelli led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Julius Robinson, stormed the residence of “Chief Oviri Onorigho, of Oghara town in Ethiope West LGA Delta State who is an accountant with the Delta State Polytechnic Oghara Delta State.”
The image manager added: “ A search warrant was executed in his residence during which one Baretta Pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered.
“The suspect was immediately arrested. A preliminary investigation revealed that he is suspected of being a member of the Aiye confraternity.
“The suspect stated that he bought the gun from one Morrison, at large, N250,000 and that it was for his protection. The suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
