The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has described the introduction of online asset declaration by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.
Olukoyede made this known on Monday, March 30, 2026, in a goodwill message delivered at the opening of a national workshop themed, “Strengthening Compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers in Nigeria and the Deployment of the Online Assets and Liabilities Declaration Systems (OALDS).” The event was organised in collaboration with the European Union, the Federal Ministry of Justice, and International IDEA.
Represented by the EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, the anti-graft agency boss said the initiative would enhance transparency, accountability, and public trust in governance.
“I believe that the introduction of online asset declaration signals a huge step forward in the fight against corruption, as it offers Nigeria an opportunity to enhance transparency, promote accountability and foster trust in governance,” he said.
Olukoyede noted that the digital system would eliminate human interference and create verifiable digital footprints for real-time monitoring, thereby strengthening enforcement mechanisms.
He described the transition from the traditional manual process to a digital platform as “revolutionary,” adding that it would simplify the declaration process and address longstanding bureaucratic bottlenecks.
“Online declaration offers digital footprints, which encourage real-time monitoring, and for us in law enforcement, such footprints also assist in verifying asset declarations by public officers,” he added.
The EFCC chairman commended the CCB and its partners for engaging heads of service from sub-national governments and urged them to demonstrate commitment to the successful implementation of the system.
“Your personal example and commitment to this initiative will make all the difference. I urge you to embrace this innovation and drive its implementation. The EFCC will be delighted to see improved compliance with asset declaration requirements,” he said.
He further called on public officers across all tiers of government to adopt the system as part of broader efforts to strengthen integrity in public service.
Olukoyede also assured the CCB of the EFCC’s continued support in enforcing asset declaration laws, expressing optimism that the new system would improve compliance among public officials nationwide. #Securitynewsalert.com
