EFCC Charges Student Leaders on Tackling Internet Fraud

-

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has charged leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, to take the lead in tackling internet fraud by spreading anti-graft messages to students across campuses.

He gave this charge in Abuja on Wednesday,  August 20, 2025 when a delegation of NANS came on a courtesy visit to the Commission`s headquarters

The EFCC boss who spoke through his Chief of Staff,  Commander of the EFCC,  CE Micheal Nzekwe expressed dismay at the effects of internet fraud on the nation, stating that the scourge has affected  Nigeria`s reputation both home and abroad.  He tasked the students’  body to demonstrate greater commitment towards tackling the fraud.

“The EFCC cannot do the work alone, we need Nigerians and every stakeholder.  As students’ representatives, you are our partners in taming the menace of cybercrime on campuses, you can be our whistleblowers. The trend now is to use cybercriminals to launder money for politically- exposed persons, let’s look at how to expose these people. We had a Cybercrime Summit where the Executive Chairman expressed serious concerns about cybercrime and how it has affected our national reputation, we can’t sit back and watch  this ugly trend continue”,  he said.

He further urged them to come up with strategies that will be suitable in spreading and sustaining the anti-graft fight among youths,  especially students.

Speaking earlier, a former National Public Relations Officer of NANS,  Comrade Bestman Okereafor  appreciated Olukoyede “for all the good works he is doing and results that are tangible that we are seeing”.  He described him as “a transformative leader and exceptional fighter of corruption in Nigeria”

” We have always stood with the Commission, we will continue to stand with you. We commend the level of professionalism and open door operation that you have brought to the system.  As partners in progress, we believe we must always come out to speak and support what you are doing because we will never be a party to mischievous propagandas, injustice and wrong doings. We are available to collaborate with you in fighting cybercrime”, he said.
