Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a self-proclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, for allegedly blackmailing an Indian victim and extorting $1,100 from her in a sextortion scheme.
The arrest was confirmed on Friday, August 7, 2026, by the anti-graft agency’s spokesperson, who revealed that Moses was taken into custody in Ekpoma, Edo State, following an investigation into his online activities.
“The suspect, who misrepresented himself on social media as possessing spiritual healing powers, was contacted by his victim, an Indian woman, who required spiritual intervention on some life-threatening challenges,” said Dele Oyewale, Head of Media & Publicity for the EFCC.
According to the commission, the suspect exploited the victim’s vulnerable situation to record illicit footage of her without her consent.
“The suspect subsequently deceived her into taking a naked spiritual bath, which he recorded live without her permission,” Oyewale stated. “He thereafter blackmailed her to send him money, else he would make the video public.”
Desperate to protect her privacy, the victim complied with the extortion demands before law enforcement stepped in.
“Investigation by the EFCC revealed that the victim had to pay the sum of $1,100 to the suspect to prevail on him not to release her nudity to the public,” the statement read.
The EFCC noted that Moses remains in custody while officers finalise the case against him.
“He will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Oyewale added.
