EFCC Seeks Multiple Approaches in Fight against Corruption

-

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has called for fully-integrated and multiple approaches in combating the scourge of economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption.

This call was made in Abuja on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, by the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Abdulkarim Chukkol while addressing a delegation of Nigerian Economics Students Association, NESA, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Chapter, who visited the Headquarters of the Commission, in Jabi, Abuja. According to him; “both preventive, enforcement and advocacy approaches are fundamental in tackling the problems of economic and financial crimes, including corruption in Nigeria, and this is what the EFCC is doing.

We prevent, enforce, advocate and enlighten the public on the menace of corruption” The EFCC Boss, who spoke through Assistant Commander of the EFCC,  ACE1 Dele Oyewale on the “Prospects of 21st century Economists”, stressed that multi-dimensional strategies in tackling corruption, require the buy-in of every stakeholder, urged the students to join hands with the Commission in fighting corrupt practices.

Now that you have heard in our discussions that corruption is always bringing distortions and disequilibrium to the economy,  you need to join hands with the EFCC to destroy its evils in our land”,  he said. Earlier the Head of Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit of the EFCC, ACE 11 Aisha Mohammed urged the students to avoid any form of crime, especially internet fraud, which is rampant among youths. “You are the future of this country. Nigeria belongs to you and you are already the future, so step up and support the EFCC in advocating the message of anti-corruption to people out there that we cannot reach. We cannot be everywhere, so be our foot soldiers as you are now part of EFCC”, she said. Also speaking on the topic: “Youths and Social Media problems and prospects”,   Head of the Public Interface Unit of the Commission, Tony Orilade urged the students to use their mobile phones wisely and refrain from committing internet fraud. He also called on them to avoid sharing unverified news stories to avoid causing crises in the country.
