EFCC Tasks Gombe Market Traders on Currency Counterfeiting

-

The Acting Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  Gombe Zonal Directorate, Deputy Commander of the EFCC,  DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad has tasked  Gombe Local market Traders Association to always  report cases of currency counterfeiting to the Commission.

He gave the charge on June 23, 2025 at a sensitization  lecture organised for Gombe State Local Market Traders Association held at the  EFCC office   Gombe, Gombe State

According to him,  transactions should always be carried out within the ambit of the law.  He gave an instance where a suspect  went to the market with one hundred pieces of  fake one thousand naira notes  to purchase food items.  He showed them samples of fake currencies and authentic ones to assist them in identifying the notable physical differences between the two samples.

” The physical attributes  of this  one piece of fake one thousand  naira notes is that they all have the same serial numbers . The texture and colour  of these fake Naira  notes are different  from the authentic currency.  He, therefore,  cautioned them to be cautious  and always verify the authenticity of cash given to them.

In response,  Chairman of the Gombe State Traders Association , Alhaji Uba Abdullahi, thanked the Commission for offering them an enabling environment to brainstorm  on currency counterfeiting  and assured the Commission of his members’  readiness to report  such  cases.
