Ember Months: Enugu Police Deploys Proactive Measures to Curb Crime

-

The Enugu State Police Command has intensified preparations for the Ember Months and the approaching festive period, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, directing senior officers to adopt proactive and intelligence-led measures to prevent crime across the state.

Giwa gave the directive during a strategic conference with senior police officers of the Command, where security strategies were reviewed, and measures to strengthen public safety and effective coordination of policing operations were discussed.

The Commissioner described the Ember Months as a critical period that requires heightened vigilance, strategic policing and increased deployment of personnel to prevent criminal activities and maintain public order.

He directed operational supervisory officers to strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance, visibility patrols, stop-and-search operations and other crime-prevention measures within their respective areas of responsibility.

Giwa also charged the officers to maintain close engagement with communities and other stakeholders while ensuring professionalism, respect for human rights and strict compliance with the law.

The Commissioner assured residents and visitors to Enugu State that the Command was fully prepared to safeguard lives and property throughout the Ember Months.

According to him, security during the period is a shared responsibility that requires sustained collaboration between the police, communities and other stakeholders.

The interactive conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, as well as heads of formations, tactical and operational units and other sections of the Command.

The meeting formed part of the Command’s efforts to ensure a coordinated and effective security response as criminal activities typically increase during the Ember Months and festive period.
