ENF Urges Nurses to Ignore Alleged NMCN Board Inauguration Claims, Calls for Continued Resistance

-

The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has urged young nurses and members of the nursing community to disregard reports claiming that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) board has been constituted and scheduled for inauguration in June, describing the information as misleading propaganda.

In a statement signed by the National Coordinator of ENF, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the group alleged that the reports were aimed at weakening ongoing agitation among young nurses over issues affecting the profession.

“The Elegant Nurses Forum wishes to draw the attention of young Nurses and the entire Nursing community to the circulating propaganda claiming that the NMCN board has been constituted and scheduled for inauguration in June,” Olamide stated.

“We strongly advise Nurses to disregard such information, as it appears to be a calculated attempt to weaken the growing resistance against the continued humiliation, neglect, and stagnation of young Nurses by the government.”

The group urged organisers, coordinators and supporters of the movement to sustain preparations for what it described as a planned mass resistance, insisting that the issues at stake extend beyond certification concerns.

“This fight is not just about certificates; it is about the future, dignity, career growth, and survival of the Nursing profession in Nigeria,” the statement said.

ENF also warned nurses against what it described as attempts to derail the struggle through misinformation.

“History has shown that those in power often employ deceptive tactics to discourage genuine struggles and silence oppressed people. Young Nurses must not allow themselves to be distracted or discouraged by propaganda designed to create confusion and false hope,” Olamide said.

Reaffirming its support for nurses, the forum said it would continue advocating against what it called intimidation, oppression and injustice within the profession.

“The Elegant Nurses Forum remains fully committed to amplifying the voices of Nurses and standing firmly against intimidation, oppression, and injustice. Young Nurses must not be abandoned to carry this burden alone,” the statement added.

Addressing young nurses directly, ENF encouraged them to remain united and committed to the cause.

“Remain strong, courageous, and united. Do not lose hope. Every meaningful change in history came through persistence, sacrifice, and collective action. Your voices matter, your future matters, and your struggle is justified. Stay peaceful, organised, and committed to the cause.”
