Enugu Police Arrest Six Suspects for Armed Robbery, Cultism, Motorcycle Theft

-

The Enugu State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough with the arrest of six male suspects linked to armed robbery, motorcycle snatching, and cult-related activities.

The operations also led to the recovery of two firearms, seven live rounds of ammunition, a stolen motorcycle, and other incriminating exhibits.

On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at about 10:30 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Crack Tactical Squad, while on routine patrol in the Abakpa area of Enugu, intercepted a 27-year-old suspect, Tochukwu Edeh, riding a black motorcycle suspiciously.

A search revealed a locally fabricated pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, concealed in a black bag in his possession.

In a separate operation on August 10, 2025, at about 5:00 a.m., the Anti-Cultism Squad, acting on information from two notorious suspects already in custody, arrested three more suspects: Odoh Friday (24), Okamkpa Onyeka Chukwu (22), and Uzor Okwudili (23).

The trio confessed to being members of the Black Axe confraternity. Recovered exhibits include a locally made single-barrelled pistol, an expended cartridge, three blue candlesticks, and substances suspected to be cannabis.

Earlier, on August 9, 2025, at around 12:45 p.m., operatives of the Oji-River Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, arrested two suspects,  Kosi Ani (22) and Ahmed Ibrahim (29), while attempting to sell a stolen Topway motorcycle.

Investigations revealed they had robbed a commercial motorcyclist of the bike at about 9:00 p.m. the previous day.

Police say discreet investigations into the cases are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their gallantry and reassured residents of the Command’s determination to tackle crime across the state. He urged citizens to continue providing credible information to aid policing efforts.
