Enugu Police Arrests, Arraigned Eight Suspects For Terrorism, Murder, Robbery

-

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested eight men over offences ranging from membership of a proscribed group terrorism, murder, stealing, and down to armed robbery.

The Command spokesman, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Daniel Ndukwe, said that the suspects had already all been arraigned in court and remanded in the Nigerian Custodial Centre.

He stated that Sunday Nwobodo (a.k.a. “Devil Spoon”) aged 29, Onyekachi Nnaji (a.k.a. “Apiawa”) aged 36, Nnamdi Nnam (a.k.a. “Junior”) aged 30, Okenwa Chigozie (a.k.a. “Ochiwai”) aged 37, Nwabunkeonye Nnamani (a.k.a. “Asaba”) 37, and Nnaemeka Nnamani (a.k.a. “Nwaeze”) 31, were arrested in different locations at Akpawfu in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

He also said: “ The suspects were arrested by operatives serving in the Octopus Tactical Squad of the Command for the offences of membership in the proscribed IPOB/ESN group, terrorism, murder, and armed robbery. The suspects confessed to the gruesome murder of two individuals and a series of armed robberies in the Akpawfu community and environs.

“They were arraigned in the Enugu State Magistrate Court on September 19, 2024, and remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre, pending further trial.

“Similarly, one Igwe Chukwuebuka Ebuka aged 23 and Smart Chinecherem aged 30, both males, were separately arrested in their criminal hideout at China Town, Ogui, Enugu, by Police Operatives serving in the New Haven Division of the State Command.

“The suspects’ arrest followed the receipt of credible information alleging that the suspects and cohorts at large, in one of their series of criminal acts, stabbed their male victim on his head with a dagger, robbing him of his Tecno phone and a cash sum of N5,000.00 at First Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu.

“The said phone and daggers, cutlass and a substance suspected to be methamphetamine, known as Mkpurumiri in local parlance, were recovered from them. The suspects have also been arraigned in court and remanded pending further trial.”
