Enugu Police Arrests Suspected Cultist, Recovers Firearm, Ammunition

-

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a firearm, live ammunition, and other incriminating items during an operation in Oji River Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Chijioke Abraham from Awka, Anambra State, was apprehended on June 13, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. by officers attached to the Oji-River Division in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.

According to the Police, the arrest followed a swift response to credible intelligence regarding the suspect’s presence at a known criminal hotspot along the Garki-Ugwuoba axis of Oji River LGA.

Items recovered from the suspect include a locally made double-barrelled pistol loaded with one live cartridge and a lighter.

Police authorities disclosed that the suspect is currently assisting investigators in efforts to identify and apprehend other members of his alleged criminal network and to determine their involvement in cult-related and other criminal activities within the area.

The Command stated that the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and security. #Securitynewsalert.com
