Enugu Police Commissioner Tours Five Area Commands, Strengthens Community Policing Ties

-

In a bid to deepen effective community policing, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has embarked on a tour of the Command’s five Area Commands, Agbani, Enugu, Nsukka, Oji-River, and Udenu.

The visits, held at the respective Area Command Headquarters, provided a platform for CP Giwa to formally familiarise himself with police personnel and engage with stakeholders, including other security agencies, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), religious leaders, market and transport union executives, town union presidents-general, youth leaders, hoteliers, and other community representatives.

Addressing officers, CP Giwa reaffirmed his commitment to proactive and professional policing that is free from rights abuses, extortion, and all forms of corruption. He urged personnel to demonstrate emotional intelligence in the discharge of their duties and align with the Command’s vision, warning that any deviation would attract strict disciplinary action. He emphasised that community support remains vital to crime prevention and urged stakeholders to sustain their cooperation through the community policing strategy.

As part of the tour, CP Giwa paid courtesy visits to several traditional rulers across the senatorial zones and local government areas, receiving royal blessings. Notable visits included the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Igwe Barr. Julius Nnaji of Nike Kingdom, Chairman of the Enugu East Senatorial District Traditional Rulers Council; His Royal Majesty, Igwe Chima Achiekwelu of Nachi, Oji-River LGA; and His Royal Majesty, Igwe Greg Ugwu, Grand Patron of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council and Igwe of Ataku Akegbe-Ugwu Kingdom, Nkanu West LGA.

The CP also met with the Chairman and CEO of Wilson Group, Chief Williams Agbo, at the company’s industrial office in Nsukka, where discussions focused on strengthening public-private partnerships in security. Stakeholders lauded his proactive crime-fighting initiatives and professionalism, pledging continued collaboration to maintain lasting peace in Enugu State.

Executive chairmen of Awgu, Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Igbo-Eze South, Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Oji-River, Udenu, and Uzo-Uwani LGAs attended the events, alongside legislative councillors from some LGAs.
