Enugu Police Raids Criminal Hideouts, Arrests 4, Recovers Stolen Phones

-

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested four suspects during coordinated raids on criminal hideouts across the state, recovering stolen mobile phones and substances suspected to be cannabis.

The command disclosed that the operations, carried out in collaboration with local security groups, were part of its ongoing proactive strategy to curb crime in Enugu State.

According to the police, the first operation took place on March 1, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch, raided a criminal hideout along the Holy Ghost Rail Line.

Two suspects identified as Nnachetam Didiugwu, 20, and Ogbu Maduabuchi, 22, were arrested during the raid.

Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe said items recovered from the suspects included four mobile phones of different brands and wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.

“The suspects, who have no fixed residential address, confessed to snatching the phones from unsuspecting passersby, particularly during evening hours,” he said.

In a related development, the command said another operation was carried out on February 28, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., when operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad stormed a hideout at Eke Obinagu, Emene.

During that raid, two other suspects, Eze Chukwuemeka, 25, and Isiaka Musa, 25, were arrested, while a large quantity of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa was recovered.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and recover additional exhibits, after which the suspects will be charged in court.

Commenting on the operations, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain its crackdown on criminal activities.

“The Command remains committed to proactive operations aimed at ridding the State of criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” he said, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the police.
