Enugu Police Raids Criminal Hotspots, Arrests 15 Suspects, Recovers Firearm

-

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested 15 suspects and recovered a firearm, ammunition and suspected illicit drugs during a raid on criminal hideouts in the Four Corners area of Ozalla community, Nkanu West Local Government Area.

According to the Command, officers attached to the Crack Tactical Squad carried out the operation in the early hours of February 16, 2026, following credible intelligence about criminal activities in the area.

Police said the raid led to the arrest of 15 suspects, nine males and six females, while two polythene bags containing dried weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them.

A further search of the area also led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge.  The suspects are currently undergoing screening.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, made available to Securitynewsalert.com, the police said those found not culpable would be released, while those linked to crimes would face prosecution.

“The suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening. Those found not culpable will be released, while those found culpable will be duly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed officers overseeing operations and investigations to sustain the Command’s proactive crime-fighting strategy across the state.

He also called on residents to support the police with timely and credible information.

“The Command will continue to identify and dismantle criminal hideouts while ensuring offenders are arrested and prosecuted,” the statement added, urging members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities.
