Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have recovered a MAN Diesel truck just hours after it was stolen from Benin City, Edo State, in a pre-dawn operation on Monday.
The recovery was made at approximately 6:30 a.m. on October 27, 2025, at Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area, along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway.
In a statement released Monday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the truck was first reported stolen at about 12:05 a.m. the same day from its parking spot in Benin.
According to Ndukwe, the Command’s Control Room received distress information tracking the stolen vehicle as it headed towards the expressway. Operatives from the Ozalla Division and the Distress Response Squad (DRS) were dispatched to intercept it.
“On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums abandoned the truck and fled into the bush,” the statement read.
Ndukwe confirmed that operatives are currently on the trail of the fleeing suspects. The recovered vehicle has been secured by the police for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the officers for their “swift and coordinated response,” reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any security-related information to the nearest police station or through the Command’s hotlines: 08032003702, 08086671202, or the State Command-and-Control Centre on 112, 09134666668, or 09134448093.
