Enugu Police Spokesman Highlights Importance of Communication to Foster Leadership

-

The spokesperson of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, has emphasised the importance of effective and graceful communication in fostering healthy relationships, leadership, and societal development.

Ndukwe, a crisis and strategic communication specialist, made the remarks in a reflective piece titled “We All Communicate, But How?”, where he stressed that communication remains central to human existence from birth to death.

According to him, communication plays a vital role in building relationships, sharing ideas, resolving conflicts, influencing decisions, and inspiring change.

“Certainly, what we communicate matters. Equally important are when, where, why, and to whom we communicate. Yet, the greatest determinant of the impact of our message is how we communicate it,” he stated.

The police spokesperson noted that the manner in which messages are delivered often determines how they are received. He observed that even well-intentioned messages can create resentment if conveyed harshly, while difficult truths communicated with wisdom, respect, and kindness can strengthen relationships and promote understanding.

Ndukwe cited Colossians 4:6, which encourages believers to let their speech be “always with grace, seasoned with salt,” explaining that words should preserve, uplift, encourage, enlighten, and positively influence others.

He further lamented the growing tendency for conversations to be driven by emotions, leading people to speak hastily without considering the consequences of their words.

“In a world where conversations are often driven by emotion and words are spoken hastily, we must intentionally communicate with grace, patience, and understanding,” he said.

Ndukwe urged individuals to reflect before speaking by considering whether their words would build up or tear down, heal or hurt, and inspire or discourage.

He maintained that the quality of communication often shapes the quality of relationships, leadership, and personal legacy, adding that while everyone communicates daily, the more important question is how communication is carried out.

He concluded by encouraging people to make their words thoughtful, purposeful, and “seasoned with the salt of grace,” noting that the way people communicate can make a significant difference in their interactions and influence.
