FENRAD Demands Justice Following Killings in Plateau, Calls for Urgent Security Overhaul

-

The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD) has issued a stinging condemnation of the recent killings in the Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North LGA, Plateau State, describing the violence as a “grave violation of human rights.”

In a statement released from the nation’s capital, made available to Securitynewsalert.com, the human rights and civil society organisation expressed deep outrage over the “barbaric acts” that have left numerous residents dead and plunged the local community into a state of mourning.

FENRAD Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, emphasised that the recurring nature of these attacks is no longer tolerable and demands an immediate shift in the state’s security approach.

“These barbaric acts, which have plunged families and the entire community into grief and sorrow, represent a grave violation of human rights and the sanctity of human life,” Nwafor stated. “Such recurring incidents are unacceptable and demand urgent and decisive intervention.”

The organisation extended its condolences to the bereaved families while calling for a transparent investigation that moves beyond mere rhetoric. FENRAD insisted that the only way to restore public confidence is through the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, noting that ending the cycle of impunity is the only path toward lasting peace in the region.

“The perpetrators of these heinous acts must be identified, apprehended, and brought to justice without delay,” the statement continued. “Ending impunity is essential to restoring confidence and ensuring lasting peace.”

Beyond the hunt for the assailants, FENRAD is urging the Federal Government to overhaul its strategy in Jos North. The group is demanding a heightened security presence, improved intelligence gathering, and the deployment of early warning mechanisms designed to intercept attacks before they occur. They also called for immediate humanitarian aid for the victims and the promotion of community-based dialogue to resolve underlying conflicts.

As an advocate for public accountability, the organisation reminded the government that its primary constitutional mandate is the protection of its citizens.

“FENRAD reiterates that the protection of lives and property is a fundamental responsibility of government at all levels and must be treated with the utmost seriousness,” the Executive Director added, urging all Nigerians to reject violence in favour of collective peace and unity.
