The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of the Aye Confraternity during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Ago/Festac Bridge axis of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the operation began when officers intercepted a Toyota Camry XLE saloon car occupied by two suspects, Emmanuel John, 24, and David Godwin, 28.
According to Adebisi, a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs, while preliminary interrogation revealed that the two suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity.
She said further investigation resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Samuel Owubokiri, 25, Adetona Seyi, 20, and David Chigozie, 25, who also allegedly confessed to belonging to the cult group.
Adebisi stated that exhibits recovered from the suspects included military camouflage, two machetes, one battle axe, one knife, 500 SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops, charms, and additional substances suspected to be hard drugs.
She added that investigations were ongoing.
The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across Lagos State.
She quoted the commissioner as urging residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to the police to support crime prevention and enhance public safety. #Securitynewsalert.com
