Flood Free Lagos: LASEMA Takes Campaign to Eti-Osa

-

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has taken its sensitization on flooding to Eti – Osa Local Government Area of Lagos.

At the programme tagged  Flood Free Lagos 2023: Building Flood Resilience is a Collective Responsibility, held at Eti – Osa LG secretariat, the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, assured residents that the State Government would continue to put measures in place to prevent flooding in the state.

While noting that Eti – Osa is vulnerable to climate change and ocean surge, Dr Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents to desist from dumping refuse indiscriminately in drainage channels, due to its closeness to the lagoon.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu hinted that a stakeholders’ engagement with the State Government will hold next week to identify challenges in Eti – Osa and proffer permanent solutions.

The Environmental Supervisor of Eti Osa Council, Mr Balogun Sharafa identified illegal dredging activities and reclamation of land as the major factors causing flash floods in the area and appealed to the State Government to come to their aid to prevent their properties from being submerged in flood anytime it rains.

The sensitisation program which had been held in Lagos West and Lagos Central will also be held in Lagos East Senatorial District of the State.

As a follow-up to the outreach, stakeholders would also be hosted by LASEMA at its Command, Control Centre, in Alausa, Ikeja to ensure the message is cascaded down to the grassroots.
