The Force Commander of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), Brigadier General Danjuma Ribah Dantani, has charged Nigerian troops serving under Nigerian Company 5 (NIGCOY 5) to remain focused, disciplined and committed to the mission’s mandate.
Brigadier General Dantani gave the charge on Tuesday during his maiden operational visit to the NIGCOY 5 Camp in Bissau, where he addressed officers and soldiers deployed as part of the regional peace support mission.
Speaking to the contingent, the Force Commander described loyalty as a fundamental military value and urged the personnel to remain disciplined, law-abiding and professional in carrying out their responsibilities.
He also directed the troops to strictly comply with the mission’s social media policy, avoid drug-related offences and maintain high standards of personal hygiene within the camp.
Dantani further encouraged the personnel to engage in regular physical exercise to sustain operational fitness and advised them to comply with lawful instructions and established communication channels.
He warned against any conduct capable of undermining the mission or tarnishing the reputation of the Nigerian contingent.
Earlier, the Commanding Officer of NIGCOY 5, Lieutenant Colonel Afam Junior Chidi, welcomed the Force Commander and briefed him on the operational activities of the company.
According to Chidi, the contingent has continued to execute its assigned tasks in line with directives from the Force Headquarters since arriving in the mission area on July 31, 2026.
He thanked the Force Commander for the visit and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities and supporting the overall objectives of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission.
The visit featured an address to the contingent, a tour of camp facilities, the signing of the visitors’ book, the presentation of a commemorative memento and a group photograph
