Fuel Station Manager Arraigned For N5m Fraud In Borno

The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, July 14, 2025, arraigned one Muhammad Yaqub Ramat before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri.

The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation to the tune of N5,000,000.00(Five Million Naira)

The charge reads: “That you, Muhammad Yaqub Ramat with National Identification Number 22537195891 sometimes in 2024 whilst being the manager of Salam and Sabur Filling Station at Maiduguri Borno State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court,  dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your use the aggregate sum of N5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira) , money belonging to Tahir Umar, being amount given to you for investment into Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) and Diesel DPK which you converted to your personal use without his consent thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 296 of the Penal Code Law and other matters connected therein and punishable under Section 297 of the same Law.”

The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charge when it was read to him. Thereafter, prosecution counsel, Shamsudden O. Saka prayed for a trial date and to remand the defendant in a Correctional Centre.

Justice Kumaliya thereafter adjourned till August 5, 2025 for commencement of hearing and ordered the remand of the defendant in  Maiduguri Correctional Centre.
