Governor Makinde, Ribadu, Arase, IGP, ex-IGPs hold strategic meeting in Ibadan

-

A two-day retreat for retired Inspectors General of Police and other stakeholders in security issues will hold from Monday, August 21st to Wednesday 23rd 2023 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where these experience officers will brainstorm on how best to intervene in ensuring strategic and effective policing in Nigeria.

The Police Service Commission’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said that the Retreat was expected to attract all retired Inspectors-General of Police; the National Security Adviser, AIG Nuhu Ribadu rtd, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission Dr. Solomon Arase and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Dr. Olukayode Egbetokun. His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde will be the Chief Host.

Ani explained that Alhaji Aliyu Attah GCON, retired Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the Committee of Retired Inspectors General of Police,  is the convener of the Retreat, stressing that it was the first in the history of the Committee.

It will be recalled that Arase had always argued that it was better to utilise retired police officers who have vast knowledge and experiences in policing to ensure effective policing in Nigeria than to allow them to stay at home and their knowledge and experiences vegetate and go to waste.

The retreat’s theme is ‘Intervention Of Ex-Inspectors General of Police For Strategic Contribution To Effective Policing In Nigeria.’  It will take place at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA, in Ibadan Oyo State.

According to Ani, several topical papers will be presented at the Retreat such as; Current State of Police Preparedness; Issues, Challenges and Prospects and Strategic actions and steps towards  restoring Nigeria Police Force’s primacy in the internal security  architecture of Nigeria;

The spokesman said: “There will also be a discussion and experience-sharing session on the imperativeness of employing the experiential knowledge of the retired IGPs in the effective management of internal security in Nigeria.”
