Residents have expressed deep sorrow and anger over recent attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani groups. In a statement shared online, Ozor Ndi Ozor (@OzorNdiOzor) shared how women in a community ravaged by Fulani militia groups lamented thus: “Truly, we are deeply saddened by what has happened to us. The Fulani have not allowed us to sleep. Yesterday, we were preparing, and then the Fulani appeared. What wrong have we done to them? It is impossible even to conduct the funeral for these people. We want the whole world to hear about what the Fulani have done to us. We were living peacefully in our land; we did not seek conflict with them.
We were living together with them, but then they did this to us. We want the whole world to hear. This has caused us great pain because of what the Fulani have done to us. We want the whole world to hear this. It has caused us so much pain. Our children have been slaughtered, and our parents have been slaughtered.”
The post led to a wave of reactions across social media, with many Nigerians voicing frustration at the government’s perceived inaction and calling for self-defence.
Iykay💙 (@iykeinfos) wrote: “They were all welcomed and were doing NaMu NaMu… When they’re finished with the North, the West and South East are next. How Igbo One Nigerianist wants to stop them with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu & Mazi Simon Ekpa is what I want to know?
Stephen Akobundu (@SAkobundu) added: “Complaining cannot protect you people, you men need to defend yourselves, you don’t stop a terrorist by complaining, you do by force.”
Dr (Brother J David) (@BrotherJusticeD) emphasised the need for arms:
“These people need to get licensed to carry automatic AK-47s with training on how to shoot the guns and bulletproof vests. These continuous complaints cannot solve the Fulani problem. Guess what? The Nigerian government is trying various approaches to solve the problem, but it cannot resolve the issue with the Fulani Muslim militia. Nigeria is at war!”
Others directed their anger at government officials. Eteobong Edem (@eteobong_edem1) tagged the National Security Adviser, writing:“@NuhuRibadu, see the mayhem your brothers are causing to fellow citizens. What wrong have they committed/done for them to be hunted by your Fulani terrorist brothers? How do you even feel hearing and seeing things like this happening under your watch as NSA?”
The tone of responses ranged from despair to outright calls for retaliation. BIG GUN (@Savage95180764) declared: “Dy play. When una ready we go declare Fulani as a terrorist tribe.”
GOLDEN (@goldenage1) expressed disillusionment with leadership: “Do anything to defend yourself from Fulanis, the government have been compromised. They won’t lift a finger to help you. As it is now, Nigeria is on autopilot. Tinubu is just a celebrity president.”
Adele Bliss (@smarryb2020) urged resistance: “You guys should fight for your father’s land not to be taken away from u because this evil government will not do anything to protect u instead, they will join the terrorists to kill you people because that is the agreement they had with their godfathers. We all knew the truth now.”
Edet Archibong (@Archibongedet) echoed calls for armed defence:
“The only time government will take you seriously get arms, arm yourselves if you know their settlements take the war to their domains, the day they realise their children and parents won’t live to see tomorrow is when this ends, keep turning the check, and die.”
sceptre (@sceptre58493678) wrote:
“Fulanis do not deserve to live with anybody except themselves. They cannot live peacefully with other tribes. All they know is killing and destruction.”
Dr Law (@obilaw444) added: “These Fulanis are foreigners. Nigeria is the only country in the world that helps foreigners to kpai its own citizens that they are leading. Nigeria is such a devilish, dangerous & chaotic place to live in. Even if you want to Islamise Nigeria, is it by mass murder? Cursed jungle.”
Other voices chimed in with brief but sharp remarks:
Tomisin Peter (@tomi50779): “Na wa ooo”
AD (@Adanma1214): “The Zoonigeria government is too busy sharing money with Your Drug lord, who is always outside the country, supported by Britain”
Chiukwu Oriaku (@RalphTathagata): “Boko Haram foot soldiers are Nuhu Ribadu brothers spreading the bloody message of Prophet Muhammad through the barrel of AK-47 & rocket launchers. Their major sponsors from Iran are being decimated by Israel & US. May Trump & Bibi do the needful in Nigeria. Biafra shall be free.”
