A woman, identified simply as Grace, has described how her friend’s husband, Nnaemeka, who just returned from Spain, shattered a plate on her head and also attacked her with punches during a squabble over a blending machine at the Oke-Afa area of Ejigbo, Lagos State.
Grace went to the Advocate for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN) and ACVPN’s Head of Rescue and Referral, Comrade Toyin Okalawon has been following up on the case.
Indeed, Grace claimed that while Nnaemeka was pummelling her, her very good, Lovely, attacked her with fingernails.
According to her, the fight was over a blending machine, which she gave out to Lovely, with the latter promising to return a new one after her husband, Nnaemeka had returned from Spain.
It was after two years that Nnaemeka returned to Nigeria. When Grace noticed that Lovely was no longer saying anything about the blender despite Nnaemeka’s return, she asked her directly.
Grace said that Lovely did not say anything to her, rather she sent N25,000 to her. She said she was confused about the money and had asked mutual friends if they had bank details of Lovely so that she could have returned the money.
When she could not return it, she decided to go to Lovley’s house, it was there she allegedly received the beating of her life.
She narrated thus: “Lovelyn came to me in 2021, and pleaded with me to help her that she was pregnant and had no one to take care of her.
“She said that her husband had gone back to Spain, of which I conversed with my husband and I helped her out to the best of my capabilities.
“I signed the paper for the CS and stayed with her throughout the hospital with one of her sisters-in -law. We continued like that till her mom came for mugwort after one month.
“When the mom was returning, Lovelyn borrowed a silver crest blender from me to give to her mom. She told me that her husband was returning with a blender, which she would give me in place of mine.
“We waited for two years before her husband returned home. When the husband got home, I waited for three weeks plus, but Lovelyn didn’t replace or give me back the blender she borrowed from me.
“She was not saying anything about it. I asked her friend to ask her if she should give me back my blender. But instead of replacing the blender as she promised, she sent N25,000 to my account on the 5th of October 2024.
“I was surprised, I asked myself what was the N25,000 for. I asked somebody if she had Lovely’s bank account details so that I could return the N25,000.
“I decided to go to her place, on getting there, I knocked on the door, but nobody answered me. I knocked again and the husband came to open the door.
“He started shouting at me, asking why I was knocking on his door, why I was disturbing him that early morning if I was helping him to pay house rent, and so on and forth.
“I told him that I was, I told him that I needed to speak with his wife because I wanted to resolve an issue with her. I was standing by their passageway. The man was still angry, he asked who I was, and I told him.
“He turned to his wife and said, you heard her, it’s like she’s here to fight. The husband said I should just get away from there before he beat me up.
“ I asked him why he would want to beat me up, I told him that I just came to his house to see his wife and he didn’t even know why, and he was saying he would beat me up.
“I told him that I wanted to speak with his wife, that I wanted to collect my blender. The next thing the man did was run into his house and come out wearing boxers.
“He shattered a plate on my head and started punching me. It was at that point I started shouting. A friend of mine that went with me, heard my screams and came upstairs to see what was happening.
“ I pleaded with my friend to go and get help me. When the man wanted to run into his house, I held him by his boxer. I feared he wanted to escape after beating me. He pressed my breasts and tried to strangle me, while his wife, Lovelyn, used blades and nails on my face.
“I am seeking justice here because her aunt is a police officer in Abuja. She has been making a mouth that she knows the police. I have nobody. They paid me evil for my good. I want justice before the husband will run back to Spain.”
