-

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, a Superintendent of Police (SP), Mr Edafe Bright, said that the Command has recently dealt a crushing blow to a kidnap-for-ransom syndicate operating in Delta State.

According to the image maker, the operation was carried out by a joint security force, leading to the recovery of over ₦4.2 million in cash.

The security forces achieved this feat only after a fierce gun battle that left two suspects dead and two female victims rescued.

He said: “The operation, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, targeted a criminal hideout located along the Obulu-Uku Power Line.

“The recovered funds are believed to be part of ransom payments previously extorted from victims in the Ibusa and Ogwashi-Uku areas.”

Acting on precise intelligence, operatives from the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad, supported by military personnel, tracked the syndicate to their forest base at approximately 00:40 hrs.

Upon arrival, the security team was met with heavy gunfire. In the ensuing shootout, the police neutralised two suspects, while others managed to flee into the dense vegetation.

Beyond the significant recovery of the four million, two hundred thousand naira in suspected ransom money, the Delta State Command confirmed the seizure of high-powered weaponry used by the gang to terrorise residents of Enu-Ani Mega City.

Along with the cash, security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle and nineteen rounds of live ammunition from the scene of the encounter.

Edafe confirmed that while the two injured suspects were rushed to a nearby hospital, they were pronounced dead by medical staff.

The two rescued female victims are currently receiving support and will be reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the bravery of the operatives, noting that the recovery of ransom and arms is a testament to the Command’s sustained crackdown on violent crimes.

A massive combing operation is currently underway in the surrounding bushes to track down the fleeing members of the syndicate.

The Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds to the nearest station.
