I really don’t know why I started sleeping with my three daughters, but it is the devil.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police, Bright Edafe, has revealed how the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ogborikoko Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Temi Agbede Zuokumor, uncovered a father’s years-long defilement of his three daughters and their visiting friends.
According to Edafe, DPO Zuokumor went on a school outreach for enlightenment, where one of the students, after listening to her speak on sexual violations, broke down and confessed to her friend about how her father had been violating her.
The confession of the 13-year-old student led to other shocking discoveries, namely, that the girl was not the only victim.
The father, Mr Edward Ngozi Odega, had also violated his two older daughters and their friends who came to visit them.
Edafe said, “Thanks to our wonderful DPO, she went to schools within our jurisdiction and did an outreach with these schoolchildren, particularly the female ones, letting them know that they should not be scared, that whatever they are going through, they should be free to talk, which eventually paid off.
“The girls were taught the importance of letting the public know if they are being sexually molested or going through any other sort of pain. Lo and behold, after that outreach, a certain student, aged 13 years, started crying.
“It caught the attention of a friend who went to her and asked, ‘How come, since the day the police came to tell us about sexual molestation, you have been crying?’
“That was when she opened up about what her father had been doing to her. The friend also told her that the man did the same thing to her on the day she came to their house, further disclosing that it was the reason she stopped going over there to visit.”
The 54-year-old perpetrator, Edward, speaking off camera, admitted to having defiled his three daughters and still doing the same to his youngest daughter, who is 13 years old.
He further confessed to have been doing it for the past seven years.
His oldest daughter, who is 24, said that the man started defiling her when she was just 12 years old in primary school.
She said she was shocked to hear from the police that her father had been doing the same thing to her younger siblings.
Edward, responding to police questions, replied: “Everything you said is the truth. I have been sleeping with my daughters for seven years now. I really don’t know why I started sleeping with my three daughters, but it is the devil. My last daughter is 13 years old, going to 14, and the act used to take place in my house.”
Edward, while admitting his crime, added that he did not force any of his daughters. He also claimed that following his arrest, his actions had “broken my heart.”
Following the exposure of the family secrets, the Delta State Police Command took the girls to the hospital for medical examination.
The first daughter is 24, the middle girl is 15, and the youngest is 13.
The oldest daughter, who said her father started violating her when she was just 12 years old, said she could not report the act because she was ashamed, as it was an abomination.
The Child Rights Law, Section 31, states: (1) “No person shall have sexual intercourse with a child.”
(2) “Sexual abuse of a child includes inducement, coercion, and exposure to pornography. Penalty: Life imprisonment upon conviction.”
Section 277 explains that “A child is a person under 18 years of age.”
The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015 (VAPP Act), states that consent is immaterial if the person is under 18.
