How Troops Rescued 48 Kidnap Victims in Zamfara Terror Attack

-

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have rescued 48 kidnapped victims following a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The operation began after troops of Sector 2 were alerted that a large group of terrorists, riding about 40 motorcycles, had stormed Magami village and abducted several residents. According to the military, the gunmen had already gathered the captives and were preparing to move them into the forest while another group waited on the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles that would be used to transport the victims. When troops arrived, they launched a swift counter-operation that forced the attackers to flee the scene, abandoning their captives in the process.

The attack was not without cost: one civilian was killed, while two other residents suffered gunshot wounds during the invasion. The injured victims were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving treatment.

In the aftermath, troops intensified security operations by conducting aggressive patrols around Magami and neighbouring areas to prevent the fleeing terrorists from regrouping or launching fresh attacks.

The military disclosed the details in a statement issued Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja. The Theatre Command commended the troops’ conduct and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in the North West, while urging residents to continue supplying timely intelligence to security agencies.  #Securitynewsalert.com
