The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu , today attended a ceremony at the Presidential Villa where the Federal Government presented financial support packages to the families of security personnel who died in the line of duty.
The event, held at the Banquet Hall, was organised by the Office of the First Lady through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme. It marked the second edition of the scheme, which targets families of Armed Forces and Nigeria Police Force personnel who have lost their lives since the inception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
According to organisers, a total of 1,638 families of deceased police officers received financial empowerment packages intended to help them rebuild their livelihoods and support their dependents.
The ceremony drew several high-profile dignitaries, including First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON; Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President; and Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President. Service Chiefs and the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), alongside wives of heads of other security agencies, were also present.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, IGP Disu thanked President Tinubu and the First Lady for the gesture, calling it “a profound demonstration of national gratitude and compassion.”
“The Renewed Hope Initiative goes beyond just policy; it is about restoring dignity and standing with our citizens at their most vulnerable moments,” the IGP said.
Turning to the bereaved families in attendance, he assured them that the sacrifices of their loved ones “would never be forgotten by a grateful nation.”
The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to prioritising the welfare of its personnel and to continuing support for the families of its fallen officers.
