The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) at a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Addressing the officers, the IGP described the event as more than a ceremonial exercise, noting that promotion to the rank of DIG represents decades of dedicated service, professional excellence, and leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
He charged the newly promoted officers to provide strong strategic direction, strengthen internal discipline, and drive reforms aimed at improving policing across the country. Disu also urged them to adopt intelligence-led policing, enhance operational coordination, deepen inter-agency collaboration, and uphold accountability while building public trust.
The police chief expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support for the Force and commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process. He also acknowledged the sacrifices and encouragement of the officers’ families throughout their careers.
The newly decorated DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha and Umar Shehu Nadada. Together with the Force Secretary, Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, they form the new Force Management Team.
Among dignitaries present at the ceremony were Kabir Alhassan Rurum, Chairman of the House Committee on Airforce; Temitope Ilori, Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA); former Head of Civil Service Danladi Kefas; former Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) Chairman Jide Adeniji; Kogi State Commissioner Muhammed Abdulmutalik; the Zazzau of Zaria; Mrs. Arese Arase, widow of late IGP Solomon Arase; former Department of State Services spokesperson Marilyn Ogar; as well as several retired senior police officers including Austin Iwa and CP Alobi.
The ceremony formally ushered in the new Force Management Team, expected to support ongoing reforms and strengthen policing operations nationwide.
