The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday visited the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), in Abuja, calling for closer cooperation between both institutions on personnel management and career progression in the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the IGP thanked the Commission for recognising the service and sacrifices of police personnel. He also reaffirmed the Force’s readiness to engage constructively with the PSC, while respecting the separate responsibilities of each body.
Disu drew attention to imbalances in the Force’s rank structure and urged joint action to tackle obstacles to career advancement, especially among personnel in the Inspectorate cadre. He further called for sustained dialogue on reviewing the Scheme of Service, saying the process should promote fairness, transparency and merit in personnel administration.
Responding, Argungu described the visit as timely and assured the IGP that the concerns raised would be given attention. He said mutual understanding and respect for each institution’s role were vital to stronger cooperation and to supporting the Force in carrying out its security mandate.
The PSC chairman also said the Commission was willing to work with the police on the Scheme of Service review and on staff development. He stressed that merit, competence and performance should guide recruitment and promotion, alongside capacity-building to prepare officers for the demands of modern policing.
The Force said it remains committed to continued collaboration with the PSC to improve personnel administration, promote professionalism and enhance service delivery to the public.
