IGP Disu Storms Oyo Communities Following Oriire Attack, Orders Massive Rescue Mission

-

In the wake of a tragic attack and abduction in the Oriire Local Government Area, Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, arrived in Oyo State on Saturday to personally oversee the security response and order an immediate intensification of rescue operations.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026, has left local communities on edge. Arriving just a day after the incident, the IGP met with Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, and other key security stakeholders to receive critical operational briefings on the deployment of personnel across the affected areas.

“This attack is both cruel and entirely unacceptable,” IGP Disu stated during his briefing. “The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate such blatant acts of criminality against our people. I want to assure residents, parents, and guardians that we, in close collaboration with sister security agencies, have intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations. No effort will be spared until we secure the safe return of every single abducted victim and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.”

Demonstrating a collaborative regional approach, the Inspector-General was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police for Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi. Officials noted that CP Adekimi’s presence is vital due to the strategic proximity of the Oriire axis to communities bordering Kwara State, which often serve as transit routes for criminal elements.

Additionally, CP Abayomi Shogunle of the Schools Protection Squad joined the delegation, underscoring the government’s focus on strengthening school safety and ensuring that educational institutions in the area are heavily fortified against future threats.

To back his words with immediate action, the IGP directed the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to comb the affected communities and adjoining forests.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life during this attack, and my heart goes out to the grieving families,” Disu added, reiterating the force’s determination to restore peace. “We are flooding the area with the necessary resources. Our commitment to protecting our schools, our communities, and all citizens remains absolute, and we will restore normalcy to this axis.”

The statement, officially released by Force Public Relations Officer DCP Anthony Okon Placid at Force Headquarters in Abuja, emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force is utilising advanced intelligence gathering to track the abductors and secure the region.
