The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, paid a working visit to Zamfara State on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, to honour three police officers who recently lost their lives in the line of duty.
During his visit, the IGP joined officers, grieving families, and members of the public for the Islamic funeral prayer, Salat al-Janazah, held in memory of the fallen personnel.
Upon his arrival, the Inspector-General was received by senior government officials and key security stakeholders. Notable among them was the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Mallam Abubakar M. Nakwada, who represented the state governor at the funeral proceedings and subsequent engagements.
While visiting the Zamfara State Police Command to commiserate with its personnel, IGP Disu praised the deceased officers as courageous individuals who paid the ultimate sacrifice while confronting criminal elements.
He extended deep condolences on behalf of the Force Management Team and assured the families that the sacrifices made by their loved ones would never be forgotten.
Despite the tragic loss, the IGP emphasised that the tragedy would only strengthen the resolve of the Nigeria Police Force to dismantle criminal networks in the region.
He reaffirmed the police commitment to combating banditry, kidnapping, and violent crime across the state, warning that criminal elements would not be allowed to undermine the determination of security agencies.
During his address, the IGP also commended the Zamfara State Command for its recent operational milestones. He highlighted recent successes, including the arrest of high-profile criminal suspects, the recovery of explosives, dangerous weapons, and stolen motorcycles, as well as the successful rescue of kidnapped victims.
These achievements, he noted, serve as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, operational dedication, and robust inter-agency collaboration.
Looking forward, the Inspector-General assured the command of sustained support from force headquarters, promising continuous improvements in operational capacity, logistics, and personnel welfare.
He urged the officers and men to remain disciplined, resilient, and dedicated to their constitutional mandates, stating that the greatest tribute they could pay to their fallen colleagues would be the restoration of lasting peace, security, and justice for the people of Zamfara State. #Securitynewsalert.com
