IGP meets, parleys Israeli government on training, capacity building

The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today, Tuesday, 12th September 2023, played host to the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Ambassador Michael Freeman, and his entourage in his Abuja office.

The IGP seized the opportunity to brief the Ambassador about the new Nigeria Police Special Intervention Squad (SIS) which is the pet project of the IGP to tackle crimes and criminality, including violent crimes across the country. He admonished the ambassador to initiate a collaborative agenda in the areas of training and retraining, cross-fertilising ideas, intelligence gathering, and improved human capacity building.
In his response, the ambassador appreciated the IGP and assured the Nigeria Police of the Israeli government’s support in all areas to improve the policing system in Nigeria.
The meeting had in attendance the Deputy Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E Inbar Lipman Garden, members of the Police Force Management team, and other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
In the same vein, the Inspector-General of Police today charged commanders of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) to be more professional and dedicated to duties with a view to standardizing escort and guard duties which are statutorily their responsibility. The IGP made the call today while addressing the commanders of the SPU at a meeting, held at the IGPs conference Hall, 7th Floor, Louis Edet House, FHQ, Abuja.
He warned the personnel of the unit against reckless, inappropriate and illegal activities such as improper dressing, high-handedness, drunkenness, etc, while on duty as the Force will henceforth take due disciplinary action on any unethical act capable of denting the image of the Force.
