IGP Summons Task Force Boss, CSP Akerele Over Allegations of High-Handedness, Corruption

-

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reportedly summoned Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, following mounting allegations of high-handedness, corruption and alleged impunity linked to the officer and personnel under his command.

The development comes amid increasing public concern and scrutiny over the conduct of some police officers, with reports suggesting that Akerele’s actions have drawn criticism from members of the public and civil society groups.

The latest complaint against the Unit was seen in a viral video, where policemen attached to the Lagos State Force were placing a vehicle in a one-way drive, which was alleged as evidence manufacturing. Since the video, many residents of Lagos State have taken to their social media handles to share their dreadful encounters with men of the Lagos State Task Force.

Sources indicate that the summons is part of an internal review process aimed at addressing the allegations and reinforcing accountability within the Nigeria Police Force. While official details of the accusations remain limited, the move signals the police leadership’s response to growing calls for transparency and discipline within the ranks.

The Nigeria Police Force has in recent times faced pressure to address issues of misconduct and uphold professional standards, particularly in light of past incidents that have strained public trust.

Observers say the outcome of the meeting at the Force Headquarters could determine further administrative or disciplinary actions, as authorities seek to reassure the public of their commitment to justice and responsible policing. #Securitynewsalert.com
