The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday, August 13, 2025, hosted a high-profile delegation of traditional rulers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, signalling a renewed commitment to a robust collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and traditional institutions.
The delegation was led by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, who was accompanied by his wife. Other prominent monarchs in attendance included the Ataoja of Osogbo, the Olu of Ilaro, the Oloro of Oro, and the Olusin of Ijora Isin. Also present were federal lawmakers, including Hon. Prince Akeem Adeyemi, and the Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the South-West, DIG Adebowale Williams.
During the meeting, IGP Egbetokun underscored the vital role traditional institutions play in maintaining peace and security at both the community and national levels. He assured the royal fathers of a strengthened partnership aimed at fostering inclusivity at the grassroots, which he believes is crucial for sustainable peace and development.
In a separate but equally significant engagement, the IGP also received the Ambassador Designate of the Republic of Poland, His Excellency, Mr. Michal Cygan, alongside representatives from the W-B Group, a leading security solutions company from Poland.
The discussion focused on the potential implementation of an integrated communication platform for the Nigerian Police Force.
This initiative is part of the IGP’s broader strategy to enhance the Force’s ICT capabilities, a move he says will significantly improve the fight against crime and criminality.
In a statement following the meetings, the Inspector-General of Police reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a police force that is professionally competent, service-driven, and compliant with the rule of law.
He affirmed that the police under his leadership would continue to embrace technology, intelligence-led, and proactive policing in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, including traditional institutions.
