A United States federal jury on Friday convicted an Iranian government operative for plotting to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump and other American officials, dailycaller.com announced on its website.
According to Dailycaller, the man, identified as Asif Merchant, was found guilty of murder-for-hire and attempting to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries. Prosecutors said Merchant was working for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to court documents, Merchant entered the United States in April 2024 and began planning political assassinations by attempting to recruit criminals and obtain sensitive materials.
Authorities said the plot was uncovered after a New York acquaintance alerted law enforcement and agreed to cooperate with investigators. #Securitynewsalert.com
