Joint Police–Military Operation Neutralises Two Suspected Kidnappers in Delta, Recovers AK-47 Rifle, Ammunition

-

The Delta State Police Command, in collaboration with men of Operation Delta Sweep, has recorded a breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation took place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at about 11:00 a.m., following intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Owa-Oyibu Division.

The report indicated that suspected kidnappers were sighted at Nniogbo Owa Ekei, Boji-Boji Owa. Acting swiftly, the DPO mobilised a joint team of policemen, vigilantes, and two units of Operation Delta Sweep to the location.

On sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly opened fire. The security team engaged them in a fierce gun duel, during which two of the suspected kidnappers sustained gunshot injuries. They were rushed to Owa-Alero General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead by the attending doctor.

Items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, forty rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and two magazines.

SP Edafe further disclosed that a manhunt has been launched to track down other fleeing members of the gang.
