In a decisive blow to arms trafficking in Nigeria’s northeast, a joint task force comprising the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) successfully intercepted a suspected arms dealer in Taraba State.
The operation, executed near Ambassador Roundabout in Wukari Local Government Area, led to the arrest of 29-year-old Bulyami Shuaib. A native of Belango Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Shuaib is believed to play a central role in a regional gun-running syndicate.
Security forces confiscated an extensive cache during the arrest: 362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 1 round of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, ₦842,100 in cash, one black Jing Cheng rubber motorcycle, one Redmi Android phone, one itel phone, two silver rings and one First Bank ATM card.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, commended the joint team for their precision and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s dedication, alongside other security agencies, to neutralising threats to peace across Taraba State.
The suspect is reportedly cooperating with investigators, offering intelligence that may assist in disrupting broader criminal networks.
General Uwa also urged residents to partner with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, emphasising the crucial role of community intelligence in maintaining safety.
This latest success underscores ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military and DSS to uproot criminal elements destabilising the region.
