A coordinated multi-agency security operation has led to the arrest of 46 suspected illegal immigrants in various communities across Ogun State.
The crackdown, which began on June 11, 2026, was executed by troops of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Acting on actionable intelligence, security forces launched targeted raids across Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and neighbouring communities. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects had been residing in the state for approximately six months without valid immigration documents.
During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform.
According to authorities, the group consists of 36 males and 10 females from four West African nations. The breakdown of nationalities includes 23 nationals from Côte d’Ivoire, 18 from Burkina Faso, four from Togo, and one from Senegal.
The suspects have been handed over to the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for further investigation and profiling in accordance with extant laws.
Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, commended the troops and partner agencies for their professionalism and vigilance during the operation.
“This successful operation underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to combating illegal migration, enhancing internal security, and safeguarding national interests,” Brig. Gen. Onu said.
He further urged Ogun State residents to remain security conscious and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to local authorities.
