Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Joint Task Force North West, has recorded significant operational successes against terrorists and armed bandits following intelligence-led air operations in Niger and Kaduna States on June 29, 2026.
According to a statement, the operations dealt a major blow to criminal elements in the region by neutralising several terrorists and disrupting attempted bandit movements within the Joint Operations Area.
The Task Force said it acted on credible intelligence, corroborated by human intelligence sources, indicating that over 200 suspected terrorists on motorcycles were converging in the Dogon Dawa axis of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.
Aerial surveillance confirmed armed terrorists moving in groups within the area before a large concentration of motorcycles was identified at a suspected refuelling point. Following identification, the Air Component engaged the location in a precision airstrike.
A Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that several terrorists were neutralised, while others were seen fleeing with injuries towards the Kurugin Maidawa axis. The Task Force said the strike significantly disrupted the terrorists’ activities and degraded their operational capability.
In a separate development, the Air Component carried out an armed reconnaissance mission in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State after intelligence indicated that bandits were mobilising to launch reprisal attacks on troops following recent clearance operations in the Womba general area.
During the mission, three motorcycles conveying suspected bandits were intercepted as they moved towards the Kamuku Forest. The suspects attempted to evade detection on sighting the aircraft but were engaged, disrupting their movement. A follow-up reconnaissance carried out in coordination with ground troops found no further suspicious activity in the area.
The Theatre Commander commended the professionalism and synergy displayed by the Air and Land Components, and assured the public that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue sustained offensive operations until all terrorist and bandit enclaves are dismantled and lasting peace is restored across the North West.
