Kano Police Arrest 26 Suspected Phone Snatchers, Recovers 126 Mobile Phones

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 26 suspected phone snatchers and recovered 126 mobile phones.

The State Police spokesman, a Superintendent of Police, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said that the achievement aligned with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to all Police Commands and Formations to dominate public spaces against all forms of crimes and criminality.

Kiyawa disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo Garba, convened a strategic meeting with all tactical units of the Command and directed that the remnants of the menace of thuggery (Fadan Yan Daba), mobile phone armed robbery and snatching be decimated.

He added: “Consequently, a series of targeted operations were carried out in the State that led to the arrest of a total of 26 suspected mobile phone armed robbers/snatchers and recovery of 126 stolen/robbed mobile phones.

“In addition to the recovery of the mobile phones, the operations also yielded the recovery of various items, including, 21 pieces of potwine injections, 20 sachets of diazepam tablets, 600 pieces of exol tablets, three parcels and other large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, two cutlasses, two scissors, one long sword and two Computer Laptops.

“The operations, which were carried out between 1st to 12th September 2024, were aimed at addressing the remnants of the menace of mobile phone snatching/robbery bedevilling some parts of the State Metropolis.

“The suspects are currently undergoing discrete investigations at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and, thereafter will be charged to court for prosecution. The recovered phones will be returned to their rightful owners after proper identification and verification as all machinery has been put in place to trace the owners.”

The Police image manager said that the Commissioner of Police commended the officers and men involved in the operations for their professionalism and dedication.

The CP also appreciated the cooperation and support of the public, which led to the success of the operations.

The CP warned that the Command will continue to crack down on all forms of criminality, including mobile phone snatcher, urging residents to keep reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the following mobile phone numbers; 08032419754, 08123821575 or 09029292926.
