The Kano Police Command said it has arrested 27 suspects after the killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the burning down of the station.
Eyewitnesses claimed that tensions erupted in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday as enraged youths attacked the Divisional Police Station, setting parts of the facility and several vehicles ablaze following the death of a suspect in police custody.
The suspect, Abdullahi Musa, was arrested on Sunday for a traffic-related offence.
However, his sudden death during interrogation sparked widespread outrage in the community.
What began as a peaceful protest quickly turned violent, culminating in the brutal assault of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), identified as M.A. Baba, who was reportedly beaten to death by the mob.
Witnesses say the irate crowd accused the DPO and his officers of torturing Musa, leading to his death.
In response to the chaos, security forces have arrested 27 individuals suspected of involvement in the violence.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and calm has been restored to the area.
