Katsina Lawmaker Secures Release of 45 Kidnap Victims After Renewed Peace Deal — SaharaReporters

-

A member of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdurrahman Ahmad Kandarawa, who represents Bakori Local Government Area, has facilitated the release of 45 people who had been held captive by terrorists for an extended period.

According to SaharaReporters, the hostages were freed last Friday following a revived “peace agreement” between community leaders and the armed group, in a bid to halt years of violence and reprisals in the area.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows one of the bandits stating that the gesture was made in line with promises exchanged during the negotiation. The armed group stressed that, since they had honoured their part of the deal, security agencies and the government should avoid escalating tensions.

They further appealed for assurances that their members could return safely to the community without fear, allowing residents to resume normal life after the prolonged period of insecurity.
