Kebbi Police Nabs 3 Suspected Gunrunners, Seizes Fabricated AK-47, Over 700 Rounds of Ammunition

-

Police in Kebbi State have arrested three suspected gunrunners in two separate incidents, recovering a fabricated AK-47 rifle and a massive cache of 737 rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition.

The first arrest occurred in the early hours of October 30, 2025, at approximately 0130hrs. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bena, on a joint patrol with personnel from No. 36 PMF Squadron, Birnin Kebbi, along the Bena-Ribah road, intercepted two men on suspicion of illegal activity.

The suspects were identified as: Rabi’u Umar (20) of Karen Bana village, Mariga LGA, Niger State and Nasiru Hussaini (26) of Doya village, Bauchi State.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of one fabricated AK-47 rifle and five rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition from their possession.

Just days later, on November 3, 2025, around 12:30 pm, police achieved another significant breakthrough. A surveillance team from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Dolekaina, apprehended a suspect at the Bakin Mashaya area of Dolekaina.

The suspect, Lawwali Ibrahim of Anka town, Anka LGA, Zamfara State, was found in possession of a substantial quantity of illegal ammunition: seven hundred and thirty-two (732) rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition.

During questioning, Ibrahim reportedly confessed to smuggling the exhibits into Nigeria from Mokassa town, Benin Republic, with the intent to deliver them to Anka town.

Both cases have been promptly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, for a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, praised the DPOs of Bena and Dolekaina for their “bravery, intelligence-driven policing and professionalism.”

The CP used the arrests to reiterate the Command’s determination to sustain its efforts in fighting banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes throughout the state.
