The Kogi State Government has directed all public and private schools across the state to proceed on an emergency midterm break effective Wednesday, February 4, 2026, citing prevailing security concerns.
The directive was communicated through an urgent notice issued by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kogi State chapter, which also warned school owners to strictly comply or risk losing their operational approvals.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman of NAPPS, Pastor Reuben Jimoh, school administrators were instructed not to announce any resumption date until further notice.
“This is important information and an announcement from the Executive Governor of Kogi State. All schools in Kogi State must go on emergency midterm break on Wednesday, being 4th/02/2026,” the statement read.
It added, “Don’t announce the resumption because we don’t know yet what will happen before Monday. Please strictly comply with this directive; if not, your approval will be revoked from you.”
The notice further clarified that the emergency break was necessitated by security issues, although specific details were not disclosed.
Authorities said the directive remains in force until further updates are issued, noting that the situation is still fluid and unpredictable.
Parents and guardians have been advised to monitor official government communication channels for information regarding resumption, while school proprietors have been urged to fully comply with the directive to avoid sanctions.
